Who We Are

Hello! We are Zoe and Garry!

Zoe came from a background of NHS, working as a Community Nursery Nurse and paediatric sleep and behavioural therapist, before moving on to managing Child Health Information Services for the South and then the South West.

She loves DIY (she's great with tiling and plumbing), enjoys crafting and has a real eye for furnishings.

Garry worked for Hewlett Packard for 13 years,  including on-site server support for the Army and RAF.

He was also a Wedding and Portrait photographer for 10 years.

He makes music, loves to sing and is a BIG Depeche Mode fan.

We first took over and began running The Jolly Sailor in Looe in 2018.

We had never run pubs before; in fact we had never even poured a pint in a pub before!

And what a pub to take over. Built in c1516 it is the oldest public house in Looe.

Move on almost 6 years and we seem to have done quite well at The Jolly. Nominated for Breakfast of the Year awards in 2019, placing within the last 16 (and the only Cornish entry). Winning Best Newcomer and Best Community Hub in 2019 and Best Turnaround Pub in 2020.

We have turned The Jolly into a Community Hub and made it a welcoming place for all visitors, locals and sightseers alike.

In fact, we have done so well that we decided to take on an additional challenge...

The Highwayman.

And what a great place it is. Serving our local community (something we already know about) and bringing in passing trade from the A38, it is full of character and warmth

.

When we first took over, we redesigned the interior, brought in entertainment and brought back the food. We have also brought something else into the pub - a warm and welcoming atmosphere!

So, we are very pleased to meet you all. Pop back anytime!

 Long Live the Local!
